Hi, man! What’s up? This is a draft post. Did you know that there are a bunch of nice formatting options in this editor? Cool, right? For example, look at these fucking blue quote blocks things:
Block quotes are a nice way to put a quote or excerpt from a source. They make it clear that it is a quote. Because quotation marks suck at it.
Of course, you can also do bold, italic, links, and all that shit. This is just the beginning of the ways the Substack user interface will blow your fucking face off!
Headings and Embeddings
You can have headings in posts. Just use the “Style” list, you toolbar. You can also embed different types of content. Like nice images of trees and stuff like this one with the swing set that kind of reminds me of Terminator 2: Judgement Day a couple of seconds before everyone is burned to ashes:
For a tweet, YouTube video, Vimeo video, Spotify track, or SoundCloud embed, just paste the relevant link on a new line (don’t grab the embed code; it won’t work).
Publishing Changes
You have two publishing options:
Publish – this publishes your post only to the web so any random can insult you in the comments section or try to sell you a new way to increase your monthly income by $15,000.
Publish & Send – this publishes your post to the web and at the same time sends the post out by email where angry recipients will try to unsubscribe to you while threatening legal action.
Note: Once you have sent an email out, the only way to send it again is to create an entirely new post. Any edits you make to a post that has already been published will only be reflected on the web. So, there’s no need to worry about accidentally spamming your subscribers with repeat emails.
Finally, if you import posts from some other site’s archives, you can backdate them so they are published in the correct order and associated with the correct publication dates. That way you look a lot more prolific than you actually are. Which is actually a lazy shit who makes snarky comments on Substack instructions post instead of publishing anything new. I’d love to publish some of my old ranting from MySpace but, hey, whatever. Who cares about Dick Cheney anymore, am I right? Anyway, to do so, after you have published a post, go into that post’s Settings (just to the left of the Publish button) and select the desired date.
